Broken Spoke Country Western Club - The Broken Spoke has been an iconic Austin landmark in the country western scene since I move here in the late 60's. It has survived all the other country western clubs with live music. It is the only surving country western bar left around this area from the early 70's with live music as far as I know. Actually many big name country western singers have performed here including Willie Nelson, George Strait and many more. I actually went with some friends of mine who were playing at the Expedition Center, to the Spoke with the Riders in the Sky and they ended up performing for a few sets. So you never know who will pop in and do a show. Lucky for the Spoke they were grandfather in this project by the developer so they have a long lease as they are surrounded by condos. I was scared that they would go the way of all the other country music places but lucky for them the developer decided to give them a long lease for now so it still a going. Even Mick Jagger from the Stones showed up here for a beer after his show while he was in town this last year.
