Threadgills World Headquarters Neon Sign - The Threadgills world headquarters neon sign before the light went out on this favorite restaurant and music venue from the days of the Armadillo in downtown Austin on December 2, 2018. The owner of Threadgills was the owner of the Armadillo back in the 70's which help put Austin on the map for it live music. It was the beginning for a surge in music from Austin. People like Jance Joplin play there, Willie Nelson, SRV, Count Bassie, I couldn't even begin to name all that played there over the many years it was open. Threadgills was my link because they had all the old memorbillia from that time on the walls and even a piano hanging from the ceiling played by many entertainers. The owner close the restaurant down on riverside because customers, are fickle along with high rent, high taxes, as some of the reasons. Don't worry you can still go the north lamar location to get your home cooking from Treadgills and i am sure some live music. Update covid 19 just put them under and they have closed for good! You will be missed.
