Description
U Drop Inn Cafe - Route 66 - This is the famous U Drop Inn Cafe and Conoco Tower Station which use to be three building with the service station and the U Drop Inn cafe and a shop which ended up being for overflow in the restaurant back in the day on the old route 66. We captured this from both angles and this is from the side of the U Drop Inn Cafe with a vintage tow truck in view on the side of the building after dark. The Tower Station is a landmark along route 66 and was the first commercial business located on the newly designated Route 66 in Shamrock. Today this building has been taken over by the city of Shamrock Texas. They include the chamber of commerce for the city of Shamrock and a visitor center and cafe U Drop Inn museum. This art deco style was inspired by John Nunn and created by architect Joseph Berry and built in 1936. There are two towers on the top with one with a metal tulip spelling out CONOCO Tower and other say CAFE. This building is on the Register of Historic Places. The route 66 started in 1926 in Chicago, through Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas,New mexico, Arizona to California till 1985. We stuck around till dark so we could photographic this with all the neon lights all lit up to capture it at after dark when they show best.
